In it’s heyday Asbury Park was glorious, full of summer vacationers from both near and far. At nearly a mile long, the boardwalk is one of the smaller ones down the shore but it had the Casino. A grand building featuring a carousel, race track cars, roller rink, arcade and ocean side restaurants. Over the last 20 years the town has fallen into poverty and the crime rate is at an all time high. Many of the boardwalk buildings are currently in a state of disrepair.
This town was made famous by Bruce Springsteen. He can still be heard playing at the legendary Stone Pony. He has sung about the “wind whippin' down the boardwalk” and used several of the town landmarks on his album covers. Still the town is not one in which most people have on their must visit list. I did say most people. Phriend and I knew it would be full of many photo opportunities and included it on ours. With fingers crossed, we ventured into town. We captured some wonderful photographs of the old buildings, had a fabulous time looking around and I am glad to say returned home unharmed.

Sad to hear what's happened to this town, but you've described it beautifully. The lines and patterns in this picture are quite nice.
Very cool painting. Glad you made it back safely. Sad that the place has been let go though.
Great location for an urban shoot! It's a shame you had to worry about safety.
Now I have "Born To Run" stuck in my head! (another song written specfically about Asbury Park)- I think I read that this building was once a roller skating ring-- ironic, considering that's what the kid was doing there.
I'm glad we came home unharmed as well---but I'm already itching to go back! lol
This is an awesome shot. I love the history of it. Great work.
Wonderful capture! I can see that being a roller rink... can here the music playing. Very cool... =)
Very cool, i love urban shots. Now you have to photograph where Jon Bon Jovi's town in NJ is for me. hehehe.
Ahhh! Trish! I am SUCH a HORRIBLE friend! Here you are posting on my blog everyday and I don't even have you as a friend. I am so so sorry. I thought you were another 365er. I am horrible! So sorry! *blush* You are on my list now. Thank you so much for all of the wonderful comments you have given me.
This is an amazing place. The colors and the architecture are fabulous.
This looks like it would make for a great backdrop for a photo shoot! Glad you made it home unharmed! ha
