During my recent visit to Mom & Dad’s, I borrowed my mom’s antique coffee grinder. “What are you going to do with that old thing?” she asked.
Well, I am going to set it up with some of the Valentine flowers I received from Dad, then HDR it, lower contrast, brighten, apply one of Kim's wonderful textures, and then soften it. Moms! geez!

Some of my earliest childhood memories are of the days I spent with a neighbor women old enough to be Grandmother. I have vivid and fond images of kneeling on a dinning room chair while she pinned dress pattern pieces to elegant fabrics. She often gave me the unused pieces and scrape fabric, teaching me how to pin and cut. In later years she taught me to sew. Fifty years later I still enjoy the touch, felt and smell of fabric and for 12 years worked in a fabric shop.
I have always wanted an old treadle Singer sewing machine. These are becoming more difficult to find as many are being dismantled and their ornate legs used on coffee and end tables. Last week while B and I were snooping around some antique shops we came across not only a table but a table with the Singer machine attached. Several days later, when I returned home from work, it was sitting in my living room.

My current lenses stop down to f/5.6. I was on the hunt for something which would open up, not only for the blurred background effect but also for a faster shutter speed. I was looking at marcos, as I am a huge fan of close up shots. I purchased a Tamron 60mm, f/2.0 marco, which was on back order. Due to my impatience I cancelled it and went with a Nikkor 35mm, f/1.8 (prime lens).
B was subjected to today's arrival of my new toy. I played around with an open f-stop, resulting in the blur, and then changed my focal point. I have a similar shot with B in focus and his guitar blurred. I went with posting this as I wanted the red instrument to be the focal point. So far I'm liking the lens.

ISO 800, f/1.8, 1/80*I bumped down the blue saturation, bumped up saturation on the red, copied, changed to multiptly, converted to B&W and lower opacity to 70%.
