At my last visit to the Osprey nest, babies were testing their wings and almost ready to fledge. I am hoping to catch one of their first flights. This evening I made a quick visit. Upon getting out of the car into the thick humid air, I was swarmed by black biting and greenhead flies. I decided to brave it out and walked to the nest. Babies were busy testing their wings and getting some lift. I shot off rapid fire and captured a bunch of what I thought would be great photographs, only to come home, upload and realize I had the totally wrong settings and all of the photos were black! Yes, after all this time I still have days like this.
I did get this shot of a dragonfly and was able to play around with it.

It is refreshing to read when someone else has their settings all wrong and have nothing to show for their efforts but junk fotos. I feel a bit better now. Thank you.
Bummer about the shots but you ended up with something very different in any event! Guess we need some bug spray for these adventures.
Aaahhh! I did the "wrong setting" thing too in Disneyland-- had it on manual for an inside dark ride, came outside and shot a *ton* of shots of the boardwalk area (and never checked any of them-- what was I thinking?) and they were all white! grrrrrrrr
I love the details in the wings on this dragonfly-- awesome!
That's a relieve that it happens to all of us. Mine were blown as I bumped it to overexposure not even knowing I did it.
You'll get them next time ;)
