I have come to the realization that capturing a web worthy photo of a hummingbird is damn near impossible. I commended those of you who have achieved this.
I
made asked B to come with me to an area which has become to be known as a mecca for ruby-throated hummingbirds, who come to feed before they migrate south on their long annual journey. I thought I would stand a better chance of capturing a good photograph if there were many subjects to practice on.
We chose to go to this garden at the beginning of their arrival. The number in attendance was not as great as I had hoped. I learned, the hummers feed for approximately five minutes before needing to digest what they have taken in. They fly off to a nearby tree to rest and process their meal. This takes about fifteen minutes and this act only serves to frustrate this photographer.
A return visit may be in order.

A gorgeous and impressive shot. I am in awe of the patience and thought I am sure it took to capture this moment. Thank you for sharing and for visiting my blog!
I did not know about the feeding digesting time frame. Good information. We have a couple hummers frequent our feeder but I've not yet tried my luck at getting a picture. Now you have unknowingly challenged me.
Despite your frustration (which I can totally empathize with as I am NOT a patient person)you were able to get a beautiful photograph! I LOVE the gorgeous red flowers and how you can see the humming bird moving.
It turned out amazing!!! I have no patience either. I've tried to catch a butterfly with no avail.
Well, this is AWESOME!! I think you definitely captured a web worthy shot!
I think you got a wonderful capture! They are quick little buggers!
Poor B-- he's such a trooper!
It looks like your patience paid off- that's an awesome capture!
I have never been able to capture one satisfactorily. I have a few attempts, but none "web-worthy" as you say.
This photo is definitely a keeper, Trish. Glad you and your hubby made the trip. :)
Wonderful shot, love the red flowers against the green, really beautiful.
Wow!! I think this is an awesome shot! Look how sharp the flowers are and I love the movement in the wings of the bird!! I would LOVE to try and take a hummingbird shot!! This is definitely inspiring!! I think you need to give yourself more credit :O)
I think you did wonderful with this shot. The colors of the flowers are spectacular. Most shots I've seen are taken around a hummingbird feeder... I love that yours is in the wild... very awesome!!!! =D
You captured a beautiful hummingbird photo! I have a flower in my yard they like but I haven't been able to make it out my door without them flying away.
Perfect capture. I waited off and on during the day, but they were more patient for me to leave. The activity is picking up, so I figure there will be so many in the future that they will ignore me. Just waiting ...
This is highly impressive. I've never been able to get a hummingbird shot, they are too fast! :)
I love this photo. Nice going, Trish!
