I am not really certain how exactly this happened. B has enlisted Phriend and I to take photos of the local area and portraits of the jocks for his radio station‘s website. I am confident, we can handle the scenery. Photographs of the schools, buildings, parks, all the places of interest in the station’s listening area.
The portraits are a totally different story. I have tried to beg out, explaining portraits are an entire different type of photography. Just because I can take a good shot of a flower, dog or a non-living object, doesn’t mean I can take a internet worthy portrait of the on air talent. B says he will be thrilled with what we get and is sure Phriend and I will do an amazing job. Me, I not so sure.
This being the case, I have been doing a bit of research on “actions” for portraits. I have seen some awesome shots which you all have taken and applied actions to, creating blue ribbon photographs in which skin tones are smooth and even and eye are crystal clear.
Question? What “action” or “actions” can you recommend? Thank you in advance.

Hi Trish! I would suggest any of MCP's actions for skin (gorgeous), and my favorite for eyes is Pioneer Woman's free action that comes in her Set #2, I believe, called Sharpen This. I use it on catchlights and eyelashes, but you do have to reduce it quite a bit so the eyes aren't oversharp. Love it! MCP also has a great one called Eye Doctor (which also comes with Dentist), which I use frequently. Good luck - you can do it!!

Great shot! Is that water?
Btw- you'll do great! There are alot of free actions on The Pioneer Woman's site. Not sure if they are what you are looking for, but free is always fun. :)
If I knew stuff I would tell but I am clueless :-( But I am sure you will do great! Believe in yourself :-)
Lovely photo, but no idea on actions for portraits. I use picnik because I don't have photoshop yet and I just try to mimic certain actions I see, probably takes longer but oh well.
Wish I could help you, but I am clueless here as well.
Keep researching, I'm sure you'll do fine!
Another clueless one here, but would love to hear what you find/use! Love this moon shot... very relaxing! =)
I didn't know we have to do people too! We need to talk tomorrow! lol.
And I can't wait to hear everyone's responses to your question-- I'm wondering a lot of the same things.
Oh- and I have to add-- "Think Happy Thoughts" :)
Ohhh actions??? Barking up the wrong tree here. Recently bought my first set of Florabella actions- and not comfortable with them yet. I do fine with my sliders in Aperture 3- unless white balance is off (which it often is)! So my one piece of advice is use a gray card!!! Congrats on this assignment- judging from the awesome images I see on your site, you are up to this challenge!!!
How exciting to get to take those pictures! You will rock the portraits so I wouldn't worry! Sorry I don't have any actions to recommend!! Good luck!
You'll both do great! As for actions, pioneer woman, Totally rad, MCP and florabella are all awesome. coffeeshop has some nice free ones too.
I use Coffeeshop eye bright, Florabella actions and I also use the MCP sharpening actions. I just bought the M4H Photographers Toolbox and it seems to be really good too.
Oh boy, sounds like a task to take on. I'm sure you guys will do a fantastic job!! I typically don't use actions, instead, I do a clean edit from Everday Elements. http://www.screencast.com/users/EverydayElements/folders/Blog%20Tutorials%20For%20All/media/af9306a5-3674-4076-99c1-97c5173f064f Good luck, can't wait to see them!!
This is stunning, great job on this!
