Flowery World: 1-19-10

Our local display of flora is several months away, so I went in search of early springtime color. With camera in hand, I visited the local garden center and found these fine specimens of bromeliad. There are over 3000 species of this tropical plant, but none of them would survive our harsh winter weather, making the greenhouse the perfect home for them.

Looks can be disceiving.

Although this looks like it could be a warm spring day, the temperatures were in the single digits and the river was frozen.

(pumps are placed around boats to keep the water moving, disabling it from freezing)

My World is Frozen: 1-12-10

Artic Blast and Deep Freeze sound so much better when referring to ice cream rather than the current weather! Mother Nature is busy creating ice art, turning our local bay into a winter wonderland.

Central Park NYC:

There is much controversy over the use of the horse and carriage in Central Park. I am not a proponent of this, but many are and over the years it has become a major attraction. An abundant number of these grand equines all attached to their buggies can be seen lined up standing nose to tail along the streets of the park near Columbus Circle, uncomplainingly awaiting the next rider.
