This past week we suffered a major heat wave. Temperatures which normally range in the high 70s to the low 80s, jumped to the upper 90s with the heat index of 105 degrees. Yesterday, at 10:00 a.m. the bank’s thermometer was reading 102, not to mention the humidity was 80%. This was just a little too much heat a little too quickly. Since we are (I am) not, yet, acclimated to this heat and humidity many of us (me) were cranky and more than a bit irritable. Generally, the ocean brings relief to the discomfort of the summer’s heat. That is if the winds are blowing from the east pushing the cool ocean breeze over the land, unfortunately for us the winds were moving westward, creating a land breeze, only blowing more incredibly hot air and plenty of biting greenhead flies. It was one of the rare days that the oceanfront was more of a torture than a pleasure.
Last evening relief came in the way of torrential rains, hail, and strong winds, the temperature dropped more than 20 degrees in a matter of minutes. We awoke this morning to a beautiful day. The sun is bright, the air is warm, and the sky is crystal clear with wisps of clouds. It’s a much welcomed perfect day.
To view Sky Watch Friday.

I'm with ya on the heat-aaaahhh! I love this picture~beautiful! I love lighthouses!
The sky in the lighthouse photo is truly worth watching. We've had storms and heat here in Virginia too...
Thank you for your kind comments on my blog. That makes me really happy.
I can't take the heat any more, either. It takes me all summer to get "acclimated" and I'm a FLorida native. ;)
Hope it stays a little bit cooler for you! Temps are in the 90's here, too. ugh.
Told you I'm sending it over :o) have a great Thursday!
This weather has been so strange--and downright scary, too. Love your picture of those high pressure clouds, though: it looks like a perfect day.
Total different weather here... we had snow yesterday and freezing cold winds... still waiting for summer.
Glad some relief has come your way finally.
Beautiful photo.
Mountain Retreat
Your photographs are very nice. I like all of them but I also like your dogs. Wow.
We have had heat in the 90s here in Ohio where I live and there is plenty of humidity.
Thank you for joining in with Sky Watch this week and helping to make it special.
Tom :O)
great one for SWF! When we realize how perfect everything is we will tilt our head back and laugh at the sky... mine's up too hope you can drop by.
I know how you feel about relief from the heat! Sorry you had to have hail along with it, though. The day-after sky is beautiful. I like your perspective on the lighthouse. Very nice shot.
So true & profound!
Very lovely sky. Your dogs are just so adorable!
We're due for thunderstorms tomorrow...sigh... just in time for our house sale. Tsk!
Hope the sea breeze flies your way soon! In Australia it's cold too quickly.. Great photograph :)
YAY! "Torrential rains, hail, and strong winds" missed that paragraph ;)
Gorgeous Skywatch! But I see you weathered the weather! :)
Cheers, Klaus
This is very pretty. I love lighthouses. It's been very hot and stormy in CT, too. Last night's storm finally brought relief from the heat.
good pic
It seems Mother Nature likes to put us through a thorough-going thrashing before she settles things down. Glad you survived! Great photo.
Excellent skywatch! This lighthouse is very pretty!
Simple but lovely! Im no summer person too! have a nice weekend though!
Beautiful photo!
GREAT shot! :)
pretty catch for Sky Watch Friday! earth and sky are excellent schoolmasters, and teach some of us more than we can ever learn from books. Mine’s up too hope you can drop by but if you already visited then thanks.
A much cooler, fresher looking sky.
Relief.
Beautiful, cool, fresh picture. It must have been such a relief to you - fresh air to breathe!
Very nice shot:)))
Petunia's SWF
I like the lighthouse in the shot...wouldn't mind experiencing some of that kind of heat.
This is very pretty. (You know I drop by to see your doggies too, don't you?)
102 that's crazy heat.Always like a lighthouse in a skywatch.
Nice picture! Well done!
I have a feeling we live in kinda the same area...you respond to Sing Sing on the Hudson River... I wonder if that's the lighthouse at Rovert Moses State Park... And your description of the heat last week - same as me! I live in Queens on Long Island. Great photos!
Awesome shot!
You got me beat! We only got to 101, but our humidity was 88%. Does that make us equal yucky's??? At that temp and humidity, WHO CARES???
Love your picture of the lighthouse - a perfect SWF.
That photo is just beautiful!
And I really love the photo of your black lab. I have one who is 12 1/2 years old!
