Living “down the shore” has many advantages; we have the bay within walking distance and the ocean is only several minutes away. This tends to lead to warm weather company. This past weekend the first arrived. They had plans of taking kayak lessons and than patrolling the bay for migrating birds.
Saturday the weather co-operated with their plans and they were busy learning and practicing their newly acquired skills. Sunday the sun was shining bringing warmth to the chilled morning air. They headed out early. I had promised to meet up with them, on the water’s edge, to hopefully get some fun and entertaining shots of them paddling away. As the day drew on the clouds blew in bringing cool winds which, in turn, kicked up the cold water. The bay was quickly filled with white caps.
My company was somewhere out on the bay caught in an approaching storm. I could only hope that their skills proved well learned. By the time they reached dry land their hands were ice blue. They were frozen and a bit shaken by the experience of being tossed around by the waves.
It was only after a hot cup of coffee and some dry clothes that they were able to laugh about what a great time they had riding the waves that the strong winds had formed.
To view Sky Watch Friday.

great picture
Whoa, I can only imagine how they felt! I don't think i'd want to be caught out in bad weather in a kayak.
I do like the photo, however. I was thinking it would make a real good painting, too!
I want a kayak so bad! We have a canoe but a kayak looks like so much fun!
You can tell it looks cold from the light in the sky! Very nice but like the warmth ;)
Great one!
Laura ~ I love the water but don't want to be in it during the storms. The bay/ocean can be come so powerful.
Lisa Maria ~ You are welcome to be one of warm weather vistors anytime. This part of Jersey comes to life at this time of year. The water activities, the boardwalks, and my favorite, just sitting by the ocean listening to the lullaby of the sea.
Nice and sporty picture.
Great shot!
Life down the shore looks just lovely! I hope you get clear skies and warm days for your kayaking adventures.
great catch for SWF! Hope to see you around in my corner too..
Gosh, it even looks cold! Nice shot though. I would love to try kayaking one of these days. I used to go canoeing, but this looks like even more fun.
Very nice shot!
Have a nice weekend:)
Kayaks and bad weahter don't mix. Great low shot.
I love this shot! I want to be in one of those boats! (on a calmer day)
Nice colorful picture!
I think kayaking looks like fun, but I understand how they felt. I've been out in bad weather on a boat before. Not fun.
I was caught by the sea once whilst kayaking - stuck me in the sand - upright!! Very scary.
Great image - brought back great memories. Thank you.
Gary
Thank sounded like a great adventure and I bet those waves will get bigger at each telling..
Colorful kayaks!
You are the fifth person to mention kayaks today! Oh, how I want one!
I enjoyed the story and the picture. I'm also jealous you live so close to the ocean!
I'm glad your friends were OK.
Love the color that pops in this image!
Love all the kayaks. It is always easy to laugh after the danger has passed. MB
Wonderful, colorful photo of the kayaks. This is my first visit to your blog. I was captivated by the photos of your dogs in the sidebar; they are gorgeous!I would love to hug their necks.
