Friday Photo Share ~

This week’s “lesson” ~ be mindful of where you are cropping. In most instances it is wise not to chop off limbs. Courtney’s examples were proof of this point.

While I was trying to capture the ♥ which was being created by the curved necks of these flamingos, I applied the rule of thirds. Upon uploading and critiquing my own photo (which I do all the time), I wasn’t thrilled with the look of the photo. I thought the photo lacked my “subject” and after reading the lesson about “cropping”, I noticed I had indeed cut off the flamingos lower leg at the point of his/her knee caps. Yuck!

I decided to crop the photo down to create the photo I had in my mind‘s eye. I am much happier with the results.

And a big thank you to Courtney for a new 4GB card, now I can practice, practice, practice.

You are welcome!!
I think you did a great job with the crop! I can definitely see the heart shape much better and it really draws you into your subjects. Your exposure looks great! The only thing I would have changed is to have raised your aperture so the second bird and other half of your heart was in focus. Other than that, it looks wonderful! Well done!

What an awesome photo. Great capture. I think you did a great job cropping. The only thing I would have liked is if the other flamingo was in focus also. Other then that it is an awesome picture.

I was thinking about recropping my picture vertical so that it made it look like more space on the right. I was just snapping as he was playing, he doesn't let me pose him. ha ha!

I agree, the cropped image defintely has more of an impact, and your eye focuses on the heart shape you were going for. Nice work!

I love this crop! And I love the flamingos! I was really disappointed that we didn't see any when we went to Florida. LOVE the heart! That's my favorite shape!
